A weird horror movie with dissonant music

Backrooms is a horror film designed to introduce the series of web stories and files born from the 2019 creepypasta. Some of these tales are quite fascinating, and one in particular served as the main inspiration for this movie.

The film begins with a strange, alien setting: a failing furniture store. We meet a grumpy protagonist, Arthur, who is dealing with a divorce and lives locked inside his own inner world. Alongside him is a psychologist, Dr. Evans, who tries in vain to treat and help him.

Suddenly, he discovers that something is wrong, an anomaly inside his store. It is a glitch in this simulation called the Universe. From that moment on, his descent into madness is inevitable.

Finally, we have an innovative concept design, a fresh film that manages to keep my attention. The movie heavily relies on its originality, which is definitely a plus. Furthermore, the core idea of this dimension operates on an intricate level that is very hard to explain.

I am left baffled by the soundtrack and the overall structure of the film, although it seems intentional: there is a constant feeling that something is off. Perhaps it is exactly its elusive nature that makes it so dissonant.

The ending of the movie leaves far too many questions unanswered. However, it still manages to deliver a good amount of scares.
